RSM - Event guide for December
Experience the magical spectacle of hundreds of glittering trees from around the world. See them shimmer against the night skies along our pine-scented walkways. Expore the Alpine Market and skate under the stars in our enchanting Victorian gardens. Enjoy live music, entertainment and illuminations around the resort.
Ice Skate Portsmouth is a real, 612sqm ice rink installed in Guildhall Square - big enough for 204 skaters per session. There is also an adjoining alpine chalet called Moguls Bar, where you can simmer you down with aromatic mulled wine, a steamy hot chocolate topped with creamy marshmallow steins, Santa's beer boots, festive cocktails or sharing vessels.
Skating sessions last for one hour and the price includes all hire. DJs play on the weekends, to create a real Christmas party atmosphere. Families are welcome and there are special ticketing options (also for groups). Parents can get their little ones out on the ice, with designated Toddler Time sessions running in the mornings.
Have a go at traditional games, take a ride on the carousel and delight in jovial entertainers. Hear the festive sounds of the season and smell the roasting chestnuts in the snowy courtyard. Marvel at the skilful Victorian falconer and children can make their own traditional toys. Meet Father Christmas and even some familiar Dickensian characters as you tour some of the festively dressed rooms.
The National Trust, Dorset Wildlife Trust and the RSPB have all partnered up to showcase Poole Harbour and Brownsea Island's wonderful wildlife at this special time of year.
These boats are a rare opportunity to see one of the best winter bird spectacles in the UK and offer a two hour landing on Brownsea Island with an exclusive guided tour around the lagoon. We will be offering a second boat on each date running an hour later if required. Please be aware that the boats may be cancelled due to bad weather conditions. We will contact you in advance if this is likely to happen.
Join us on Sunday 9 December for the annual RNLI Christmas Market. Now in its 5th year entertainment includes Santa arriving by lifeboat, Dr Balloon man, Creation Station, live music, face painting and over 40 stalls.
Lift your spirits with Christmas carols and a relaxing winter walk on Brownsea this December.
Escape the shopping madness and enjoy a boat ride to Brownsea. One of our experienced volunteers will take you on a guided walk of the lagoon to see all the birdlife then lead you back to the candlelit church for carols, mulled wine/hot ribena and mince pies. Price includes entry, boat fare, carols and refreshments. Please be aware that boats may be cancelled due to bad weather conditions. We will contact you in advance if this is likely to happen.
Each year during the Christmas holidays Dinosaur Isle Museum leads a guided walk to look for fossils from the time of the dinosaurs. This year it will be at Yaverland on Saturday 29th of December, starting at Dinosaur Isle Museum at 10 am.
The Christmas fossil walk has become a popular tradition with some families, and with good weather it attracts a lot of visitors.
This walk provides an opportunity to look for fossils from our eroding coastline, and to walk off all that Christmas turkey. Wrap up warm and bring wellingtons. Bring a small plastic bucket or strong plastic bag for children to collect fossils.
A great event for families on the UK mainland or further abroad visiting relatives and friends on the Island for Christmas.
