Emsworth British Food Fortnight - 22 Sept 2018 - 7 Oct 2018

The pretty coastal town of Emsworth, with its array of independent shops and renowned restaurants and pubs, has long been a destination for food lovers, and will once again be participating in British Food Fortnight with over 75 food related activities that both residents and visitors.

Early morning wildlife ramble on Brownsea Island - Saturday 6th October from 7.30-10am, booking essential.

An opportunity to visit the island at its most peaceful, this early morning ramble takes in the captivating sights and sounds of Brownsea's wildlife with particular interest at the lagoon.

One of our resident rangers will meet you from the boat and lead you on a walk on Brownsea, making time to experience the autumnal bird spectacles of migrating and returning visitors on the lagoon. Afterwards, head to our harbourside cafe where you will be greeted with a warming cuppa and a breakfast roll.

Meet on the Sandbanks jetty (adjacent to the Sandbanks chain ferry).

Talk: The Raising of the Mary Rose - Wednesday 10th October from 6-9pm

Christopher Dobbs, Head of Interpretation and Maritime Archaeology for the Mary Rose Trust will be providing his personal insights and anecdotes on the process of excavating and raising the Mary Rose, one of the largest underwater archaeological excavations in history.

One World By The Sea Festival - 11th - 13th October 2018

Returning for a second year, the One World By The sea Festival celebrates cultural diversity and showcases Poole and Bournemouth as welcoming, international and inclusive.

If you like different international cuisines, live music, and interactive cultural activities, there will be something for you. Last year saw a family global discovery day, an international music evening, carnival club night, a world cinema screening with Director Q&A, and to finish, a free family event in the Triangle, central Bournemouth, featuring food, music, singing, dancing and more from around the world.

Sky Dining at Emirates Spinnaker Tower - Friday 12th and Saturday 13th October, 7.30-11pm

Gary Pearce of popular Emsworth restaurant 36 On The Quay has been announced as the new chef behind October's Sky Dining events at Emirates Spinnaker Tower.

Sky Dining is a unique fine dining experience, served in a 'pop-up restaurant' 100 metres above sea level, surrounded by breath-taking panoramic night-time views over Portsmouth Harbour and the Solent. The seven course menu will showcase the finest seasonal produce from across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

Autumn Pumpkin Festival and Scarecrow Avenue at Royal Victoria Country Park - Sat 13th October from 12-5pm
A charity festival to celebrate the very best of Autumnal treasures with the spotlight on Pumpkins and Scarecrows at Royal Victoria Country Park in Netley Abbey!

Royal Victoria Country Park welcome you to the Jubilee Sailing Trust Autumn Pumpkin festival and Scarecrow Avenue. Fun for all the family with Autumnal food, drink, music, dance, Big Draw art and flower arranging workshops, crafts, gardening advice and produce, storytelling, Pumpkin games, stalls and much much more.

Bring your own Scarecrow for our Scarecrow Avenue. The biggest pumpkins in UK will be paraded, celebrated and serenaded trying to beat last year's winning giant pumpkin. Small pumpkins are welcome too! Arrive early and stay all afternoon.

The event will also see children's activties, sports and games, circu skills and puppets, crafts, gifts, real ale and cider, local food and poduce and much more. 

Dogs on leads welcome. 

Talk - Sea What's There - Wednesday 17th October

Come and listen to five inspirational people who are turning the tide on the way we treat our oceans.

Through film, talks, facts, and discussion they will share how they have observed, recorded, advised, and broadcast the effects of plastic, climate change, over-fishing and pollution on our seas. Hear and see what they have done to change attitudes and the actions they’ve taken. Lyme Regis sits overlooking Lyme Bay – there is a wealth of sea-life and wonders on its doorstep. Find out how you can help preserve it for future generations.


David Jones is the founder of Just One Ocean, an environmentalist, media diving specialist, cameraman and ocean plastic consultant. David has worked with David Attenborough, Bear Grylls and Ben Fogle. His work includes the award winning documentary film A Plastic Ocean and for the BBC.

Martin Dorey is the founder of Two Minute Beach Clean, writer, surfer and beach lover who lives in Bude, Cornwall. Martin also presented a BBC TV show called One Man and his Camper-van.

William Thomson is an explorer, paddle boarder, graphic artist, mapmaker, and author of The Book of Tides, The World of Tides and Tide Walker. William has featured in The Daily Telegraph, on the BBC, and in The Scotsman.

Morven Robertson is a UK Project Manager at Lyme Bay Fisheries and Conservation Reserve facilitated by the Blue Marine Foundation. Morven works with locals, fisherman, and organisations caring for the sea.

Anne Baker is a change consultant, Scientist, Educator and Ocean Advocate. In 2014, with other scientists, Anne took part in eXXpedition gaining first hand observation of the significant challenge of ocean plastic pollution seen whilst sailing across the Atlantic and around the British Coast. She developed an in-depth understanding of the impact of plastic on our planet, the oceans, and our health.

Trafalgar Night on HMS Warrior at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard - Friday 19th and Sat 20th October 7-11.40pm

Due to popular demand, a second date has been added for this historically significant evening onboard HMS Warrior. 

Join Portsmouth Historic Dockyard on either the 19th or the 20th October 2018 for this traditional naval celebration commemorating Nelson's famous victory. Watch the parading of the beef with tradition drummers and join the Captain in a port toast to the memory of Vice Admiral Lord Nelson. Plus enjoy sea shanties as you dine.

Half-term activities will end early at 3pm on Sat 27 Oct due to the Fireworks Spectacular event.

October Half Term at Brownsea Island - 20th - 28th October 10-4pm

Dare you enter Brownsea's haunted woods, this October half term?

Set sail to Brownsea for a week of frightful fun for the whole family. Venture into the creepy copse and brave giant spiders, skeletons and ghosts. Children can flex their creativity with ghoulish crafts or snap some spooktacular pictures with our props. Head to the witches corner at the Visitor Centre every day from 10am during half term.

This event is free, but normal admission charges apply for the venue.

Spooky Hallows Quest - 20th - 28th October 10-5pm

Access: Please be aware that there are steps, steep slopes and uneven paths in the castle. There is wheelchair access to the Outer Bailey only.

Explore our spooky All Hallows quest, learn about mysterious natural creatures & find all the missing pumpkins!

The Great Escape (11am-3pm): Bring your own brave teddy to rescue one of our knights from the clutches of King John & help them escape down the zip wire from the Castle Keep.

Trebuchet missile launch (11.30am & 2pm): Come and see how far a missile launch from Corfe Castle's resident medieval siege engine, 'Warwolf 11' will go.

October half-term at Corfe Castle - 20th - 28th October 10-5pm

There's plenty going on at Corfe Castle this October half-term. Bring your brave teddy to rescue one of our knights and help them to escape down the zip wire from the Castle Keep, witness a missile launch from Corfe Castle's resident medieval siege engine or follow our spooky trail. Please wear suitable outdoor clothing and sturdy footwear. Please be aware that there are steps, steep slopes and uneven paths in the castle. There is wheelchair access to the Outer Bailey only.

RNLI College Wine Discovery Evenings - South American Wines 25th October, Sparkling Wines 22nd Nov, 7-9pm

Come and explore a range of exciting wines hosted by WSET-certified Jose Oldroyd from the General Wine Company - along with guest wine ambassadors on selected dates includeing Antonio Di Marco from Ego Bodegas, Jumilla and Alan Snudden Chevalier of the Confrerie des Vins de Sainte Foy Bordeaux.  

Wine Discovery Evenings will be held in the stunning Harbour View Suite at the RNLI College in Poole from 7-9pm, starting Thursday 22 February 2018.

On the night enjoy the taste of six delicious wines from the selected region and be introduced to a few lesser-known indigenous grape.
